Phone Call QR Code Generator
Create a QR code containing your telephone number. A compatible phone can open its dialer with the number ready, while the person reviewing the prompt still controls whether a call starts.

How Should You Use Phone QR Codes?
This QR type encodes its final data directly in the QR image. It opens the saved action without a managed redirect, and you create a new QR image whenever that data changes.
Best For
Fixed information and device actions that should open directly from the QR image, with no managed redirect between the scan and its result.
Not Best For
Cases where another QR type is more specific, such as PDF for files, vCard for contact saving, WiFi for network access, or menu QR for restaurant menus.
Before Printing
Test the final QR at real size, confirm the quiet zone, and use the size calculator when the code will appear on signs, packaging, menus, cards, or other printed material.
What QRLynx puts in a Phone QR code
QRLynx converts the entered number into a direct tel: payload, such as tel:+12025550123. The QR contains the telephone identifier itself, not a QRLynx webpage or redirect.
RFC 3966 defines the tel: URI as an identifier for a telephone number. The scanning phone, camera, browser, dialer, carrier, and user control the next screen and whether the call proceeds.
How to create a Phone Call QR code with QRLynx
Prepare the number, inspect the exact payload, and test the exported code on the intended devices.
Prepare a dialable public number
Prefer the global form with a leading plus sign and country code when the audience may scan from more than one country. Confirm the published number reaches the intended line.
Enter it in the Phone field
Choose Phone in QRLynx and enter the number. QRLynx builds a direct tel payload rather than a webpage or managed redirect.
Treat extensions as device-dependent
If the destination needs an extension or post-dial sequence, test the exact result on the target devices and carrier path. Do not assume pause characters behave consistently.
Design for the placement
Use strong contrast, preserve the quiet zone, and label the action clearly, such as Scan to call the service desk.
Download the final file
PNG, JPG, WEBP, and PNG HD are included. PDF and SVG downloads are available with Starter+.
Scan the real proof
Confirm that several representative phones decode the exact number, show an appropriate dial action, and leave the user in control before the full print run.
Choose Phone, vCard, SMS, WhatsApp, or Email
Use the payload that matches the action you want after scanning.
| QR type | Stored payload | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Phone Call | A tel: telephone identifier | Open a compatible dialer with one number ready |
| vCard / Contact | Name, phone, email, company, and other contact fields | Offer a complete contact record to save |
| SMS | An sms: URI with a recipient and optional draft | Open a messaging composer for review and sending |
A WhatsApp web link and optional draft message | Open a WhatsApp conversation when supported | |
A mailto: URI and optional subject or body | Open an email draft for a written enquiry |
Phone number format, device behavior, and privacy
Use a number that callers are meant to receive. A global number such as +12025550123 is easier to interpret across countries than a number that depends on a local dialing context. QRLynx does not verify that the number belongs to you, is active, or can receive every caller.
Apple documents that a telephone link can show a confirmation before dialing. Android documents the tel: scheme for opening a dial action. Actual handling varies with the camera, browser, default phone app, permissions, device type, carrier, region, and accessibility settings. A laptop or tablet may offer a calling app, show the number, or have no compatible handler.
The printed number is readable by anyone who scans the QR. Avoid private extensions, personal numbers, or restricted support lines on public material. Standard, premium, toll-free, roaming, or international charges depend on the caller, number, carrier, and plan. Do not promise that a call is free.
Where a Phone Call QR code fits
Business Cards
Offer a direct dial action when a call is more useful than saving a full contact. Use a vCard QR when the complete contact record matters.
Storefronts and Signs
Publish a sales, reservation, accessibility, or service number with accurate staffed hours and a clear call label.
Product Packaging
Connect customers to an approved support line, while keeping written and accessible support alternatives visible where appropriate.
Vehicle Advertising
Use the QR only where people can scan safely while stationary. Keep the telephone number printed as a readable fallback.
Property and Event Signs
Route enquiries to the correct public line and update the physical material if the number changes.
Service Desks
Provide a tested local or international number and state any hours, language, or charge information the caller needs first.
A Phone QR is static and has no QRLynx scan analytics
The telephone number is stored directly in the printed QR pattern. Changing the number requires a newly generated QR and updated material. Because the scan does not pass through a QRLynx managed redirect, QRLynx does not receive a redirect request or record a scan event for this type. It also cannot confirm a dial tap, connected call, caller identity, call duration, lead, or sale.
Phone Call QR code questions
What is a Phone Call QR code?
It is a QR code containing a tel: telephone identifier. A compatible scanner can hand that number to a dialer, but the device and user control the prompt and whether a call begins.
Does scanning place the call automatically?
Do not rely on automatic dialing. Compatible phones normally present a dial or confirmation action so the person can review and choose whether to continue.
How should I format an international number?
Prefer the global form with a plus sign, country code, and subscriber number, such as +12025550123. Confirm the exact public number with the telephone provider and test it from the countries you serve.
Can I include an extension?
Extension and post-dial handling varies across scanners, dialers, carriers, and phone systems. Test the exact encoded result on representative devices. When reliability matters, publish the main number and display the extension in readable text.
Does it work on every phone?
No universal handoff can be guaranteed. Modern mobile platforms commonly support tel links, but the camera, browser, installed apps, permissions, device type, carrier, and region determine what happens.
Can QRLynx track scans or completed calls?
No. The Phone type stores a direct tel payload and does not use a QRLynx redirect, so QRLynx records no scan analytics and cannot observe whether a call connects.
Is a Phone Call QR code free to create?
Yes. You can create, customize, and download a static Phone QR as a guest. PNG, JPG, WEBP, and PNG HD are included, while PDF and SVG are available with Starter+.
Which contact QR type should I use instead?
How should I test the final code?
Decode the exported QR independently, compare the exact number, then test the real printed size on several target phones. Use the QR readability checker as an additional image check.
