QR Type Guide

How Should You Use WhatsApp QR Codes?

Choose static when the destination will stay fixed. Choose dynamic when you need to edit it after printing, measure scans, pause a campaign, or keep one stable short link.

Best For

Campaigns where the scanner expects a focused destination and you may need analytics, design control, or a destination you can update later.

Choose the Right Destination

Match the destination to what the scanner needs: a document to read, contact details to save, a network to join, or a web page to open. Use the related QR types below to compare the available workflows.

Before Printing

Test the final QR at real size, confirm the quiet zone, and use the size calculator when the code will appear on signs, packaging, menus, cards, or other printed material.

What This QRLynx Generator Accepts

The QRLynx WhatsApp preset accepts a complete HTTPS URL. Paste the finished click-to-chat link, such as https://wa.me/14155552671, into the URL field. QRLynx turns that URL into the QR image; it does not build the WhatsApp link from separate phone-number or message fields.

A valid click-to-chat link normally uses the full phone number in international format with digits only. A pre-filled message belongs in the link's URL-encoded ?text= parameter. WhatsApp controls whether the number is available, how the web or app handoff appears, and whether the visitor sends the prepared message.

How to Create a WhatsApp QR Code in QRLynx

Prepare the destination first, then build and test the QR

1

Prepare the WhatsApp Click-to-Chat URL

Copy a working WhatsApp click-to-chat link for the intended number. For a wa.me link, use the full international number as digits only. Add a URL-encoded text parameter only when you want an editable draft message to appear.

2

Paste the Complete URL into QRLynx

Use the WhatsApp generator above and paste the full HTTPS destination into its URL field. QRLynx treats this preset as a typed web destination.

3

Choose Static or Dynamic

Use static mode to encode the WhatsApp URL directly in the QR image. Save a dynamic QR to your account when you want a managed QRLynx redirect, later destination edits, and eligible scan analytics.

4

Design, Download, and Test

Choose readable colors and a clear label, download the final QR image, scan that exact file on mobile and desktop, confirm the intended WhatsApp destination, and verify that any prepared message remains editable before sending.

Static or Dynamic WhatsApp QR Code?

A static WhatsApp QR code places the complete click-to-chat URL directly in the QR image. It can be created and downloaded as a guest. Changing the number or prepared message requires a new QR image, and scans do not pass through QRLynx analytics.

A dynamic WhatsApp QR code prints a managed QRLynx redirect. After saving it to your account, you can update the destination URL without replacing the printed QR image. Eligible scans that reach the redirect can appear in QRLynx analytics. The free Starter plan includes 3 active dynamic QR codes, unlimited scans, raster downloads, and a three-month analytics window.

Useful WhatsApp QR Workflows

Match one tested link and printed label to one clear conversation task

Sales Questions

Use a tested link and a short prepared message that identifies the product, offer, or location the visitor saw.

Customer Support

Place the QR near the relevant product or instruction and state what information the customer should include in the chat.

Appointments and Enquiries

Give the visitor a direct path to the WhatsApp number that handles that specific request.

Campaign Measurement

Use separate saved dynamic QRs for placements you need to compare. QRLynx measures eligible scans, while WhatsApp controls chat and message outcomes.

The common direct format is https://wa.me/<number>. Use the country code and number as digits only, without a plus sign, spaces, parentheses, or hyphens. For a prepared message, append a properly encoded ?text= value.

Open the completed URL in a browser before creating the QR. Confirm that it points to the intended WhatsApp account. After generating the QR, scan the final downloaded image and check the handoff again. A prepared message is a draft for the visitor to review, edit, and send; scanning the code does not send a message automatically.

For a WhatsApp group, use the exact group invitation URL provided by WhatsApp instead of inventing a phone-number link. The QRLynx field still accepts the complete HTTPS destination.

Where to Place a WhatsApp QR Code

Use placements where a conversation is a natural next step

Product Packaging

Link to the support or sales number responsible for that product and add a specific Scan to chat label.

Flyers and Printed Offers

Use a destination and prepared message that identify the campaign or offer without making the message too long.

building

Storefronts and Counters

Let visitors start a chat during published support or sales hours and state the purpose beside the code.

Business Cards

Give contacts a quick path to the right WhatsApp number while keeping phone, email, and vCard options separate.

  • Publish only a phone number or group invite you are authorized to share.
  • Keep the prepared message short, accurate, and free of sensitive information.
  • Label the code with the exact action, such as Scan to chat on WhatsApp.
  • Use strong contrast and retain the four-module quiet zone around the QR symbol.
  • Test the final downloaded file on the devices your audience uses.
  • Confirm support hours, consent, privacy, and message-handling practices separately from the QR code.

For full print planning, see the QRLynx QR code sizing guide. For SMS rather than WhatsApp, use the SMS QR generator.

QRLynx WhatsApp QR Code Questions

Does QRLynx build the wa.me link from my phone number?

No. The current QRLynx WhatsApp preset provides one URL field. Prepare or copy the complete WhatsApp click-to-chat URL first, then paste that HTTPS URL into QRLynx.

What phone-number format does a wa.me link use?

WhatsApp's click-to-chat guidance uses the full international phone number as digits only. Leave out the plus sign, spaces, parentheses, and hyphens, then test the completed URL before generating the QR.

Can the QR code include a prepared WhatsApp message?

Yes, when the complete destination URL already contains a properly URL-encoded text parameter. The message appears as an editable draft. The visitor still chooses whether to edit and send it.

Can I change the WhatsApp number after printing?

Yes, if you saved a dynamic QRLynx QR and update its destination URL. A static QR encodes the original URL directly, so changing it requires a new QR image.

Can QRLynx tell me who messaged after scanning?

No. QRLynx can report eligible dynamic QR scans in aggregate. WhatsApp controls the chat, and QRLynx scan analytics do not identify the sender or prove that a message was sent.

Does scanning automatically send the prepared message?

No. The destination can open WhatsApp with a draft message, but the visitor reviews it and taps Send.

Can I use a WhatsApp group invitation link?

Yes. Paste the complete HTTPS invitation URL supplied by WhatsApp into the QRLynx URL field, then test the invitation flow before sharing the QR.

Which QR-image downloads are included?

Guest and registered basic downloads include raster formats. PDF and SVG QR-image exports are available from Starter+, QRLynx's first paid plan. This is separate from static or dynamic destination behavior.
