QR code guide library

Find the right guide for creating, scanning, printing, securing, or measuring a QR Code. Browse by task, industry, data type, or campaign need.

Selected QR Code Type

Where should you start?

This library brings together more than 100 QRLynx tutorials, technical references, comparisons, and industry guides. Start with the action the QR code must perform, then choose the payload, static or dynamic behavior, design, file format, placement, and test that fit that job.

QRLynx supports 61 QR code types. The free Starter plan includes 3 active dynamic codes, unlimited static codes, unlimited scans, 3 months of analytics, design tools, and watermark-free downloads for registered users. Dynamic URL and hosted-page codes can record eligible scan events that pass through QRLynx. Static codes encode their final data directly, so QRLynx does not receive or count the camera decode.

Use the plain-English QR code glossary for technical terms, or open the QR code generator when your content and destination are ready.

Plan a QR code that works

1

Define the action after the scan

Name the exact task, such as opening a page, saving a contact, joining WiFi, viewing a file, paying, registering, or sending a message.

2

Choose the smallest useful payload

Select the matching QR type and include only the data the scanner needs. Shorter payloads usually produce a less dense symbol.

3

Choose static or dynamic behavior

Use static when the final content is fixed and QRLynx scan analytics are not needed. Use dynamic when the destination may change or the campaign needs redirect analytics.

4

Design for the final placement

Keep clear quiet space and strong contrast, protect the finder patterns, and size the code for its final module count, material, distance, and lighting.

5

Export and test the final file

Use the format required by the screen or printer. Test the exact export at final size on representative iPhone and Android devices and on a physical proof when printing.

6

Publish and maintain the destination

Confirm the page, file permissions, payment details, or account route before release. Keep ownership documented, and review analytics or destination changes when the code is dynamic.

Getting started

These guides cover the first decisions: what the code should contain, how it will be scanned, whether its destination may change, and what must be tested before use.

Technical reference

Use these references when symbol structure, capacity, error correction, data syntax, or standards compatibility affects the decision.

Scanning and troubleshooting

A QR Code can be scanned from a live camera view, a saved image, a desktop screen, or a device-specific scanner. The available method depends on the operating system, camera app, and payload.

Security, safety, and first-party research

Safe QR use starts with the source, the physical placement, and the destination shown before sensitive information is entered. QRLynx also publishes its safety process and first-party scan research with methodology.

Social media and messaging

These guides show how a QR Code can open a profile, video, playlist, chat, pre-filled message, or hosted link page. The destination platform controls the account, content, and sign-in experience.

Business and professional use

A business QR Code should open the exact task promised beside the symbol: save a contact, find a location, register, review, book, check in, or complete a form.

Digital wallet business cards

QRLynx wallet passes are created from Digital Business Card pages. These guides cover the save flow and the differences between Apple Wallet and Google Wallet.

Restaurants and hospitality

Restaurant and accommodation QR Codes commonly open menus, ordering pages, guest information, booking flows, or WiFi credentials. Keep a practical alternative available where access should not depend on a phone.

Weddings and events

Event QR Codes can connect an invitation, sign, table card, or thank-you note to the service that collects RSVPs, photos, messages, or payments.

Industry guides

Industry use determines the destination, physical environment, data owner, privacy boundary, and standards that matter. These guides separate the QR Code from the system responsible for the result.

Documents and office tools

These workflows put a QR Code into documents, presentations, forms, and spreadsheets. Check the sharing permissions and destination before distributing the final file.

Personal uses

Personal QR Codes can connect a physical item to contact details, a memorial page, or an external record. Choose what information should be public before printing it.

  • Memorial QR Code: Link a plaque or marker to a page maintained by the family or memorial provider.
  • Pet QR Code tag: Open selected contact and care information when someone finds the animal.
  • Emergency and medical ID QR Codes: Understand public-data, device, connectivity, and clinical limitations before using one as supporting information.
  • QR Code luggage tag: Connect a found bag to the contact route you choose to publish.

Print reliability depends on module size, quiet zone, contrast, payload density, material, surface, light, distance, and the reader. Always test the finished physical piece before the full run.

  • Minimum QR Code size for print: Plan size from the final module count, intended scan distance, material, lighting, and a finished physical proof.
  • QR Codes on flyers and posters: Plan size, viewing distance, placement, call to action, and proof testing.
  • QR Code sticker guide: Choose size, stock, adhesive, lamination, curve placement, and weather resistance.
  • QR Code table tents: Match eye-level placement, table distance, destination, and cleaning conditions.
  • Canva QR Codes: Compare Canva's creation route with the dynamic and measurement workflow of a dedicated generator.

Payment QR codes

A payment QR Code carries a payment payload or opens a provider-hosted payment flow. The payment service handles the amount, account, authorization when required, transaction, receipt, and records.

QR code generator comparisons

These editorial comparisons review free limits, scan policies, download formats, analytics, bulk creation, AI features, and published prices for different buying decisions.

Common QR code questions

What is a QR Code?

A QR Code is a two-dimensional barcode defined by ISO/IEC 18004. It stores data in a grid of modules and can encode URLs, text, contact details, WiFi credentials, messages, and other structured payloads.

How do I create a QR Code?

Choose the content type, enter the final data, decide between static and dynamic behavior, customize the design, download the required file format, and test the exported code on the intended device and physical material.

What is the difference between static and dynamic QR Codes?

A static QR Code stores its final payload directly in the symbol. A dynamic QR Code stores a managed redirect URL, so an authorized owner can update the destination and the redirect service can record eligible scan activity.

Can I create QR Codes for free?

Yes. QRLynx's free Starter plan includes unlimited static codes, 3 active dynamic codes, unlimited scans, 3 months of analytics, design tools, and watermark-free downloads for registered users.

How do I scan a QR Code?

Open the phone camera or built-in QR scanner, point it at the complete code, and select the detected action. Camera support varies by Android model, so Quick Settings, Google Lens, or another system scanner may be the available route.

How does QRLynx count scans?

QRLynx records eligible events that pass through its dynamic redirect infrastructure and skips recognized bots from normal scan counting. A unique scan is estimated per QR code and UTC day. For that estimate, QRLynx groups scans by QR code, an IP-derived key, and the UTC day. Account owners receive aggregated reporting rather than scanner identities or IP addresses.

Do QR Codes expire?

Static codes keep the payload printed in the symbol. Ordinary QRLynx dynamic codes do not expire because of age or scan volume while they remain active within the account's plan capacity, including the free Starter plan. Optional expiry rules start on the paid Pro plan. A code can also stop after deletion, deactivation, a configured schedule, a destination or safety issue, an account restriction, or a downgrade that places it above the new active capacity. Codes paused only because they exceed plan capacity can return when capacity is restored or an active slot is freed.

What size should a printed QR Code be?

Set the physical size from the final QR version and module count, the printer's resolution, intended scan distance, surface, lighting, and camera conditions. Preserve the quiet zone, then test the exact exported file at final size on the real material before approving the full print run. A size formula is only a starting point, not a scan guarantee.

How does QRLynx check saved URL destinations?

Saved URL-based QR Codes from signed-in creators pass through a multi-layer safety pipeline. Confirmed threats are blocked during creation, uncertain or newly flagged destinations can receive a warning page, and manual review can pause a QR Code completely.

Can I change a QR Code after printing?

An authorized owner can update the destination of a supported dynamic QRLynx code while keeping the printed redirect unchanged. A static code keeps the data originally encoded in its module grid.
